The mind/body connection is not unlike the computer/software connection. 
Without software running through a PC in the form of electric impulses,
a PC would be nothing more than an odd looking collection of
metal, glass and plastics.  Likewise, without a CPU, a monitor and a keyboard
the electrical current would only exist as a sudden spark of energy without
the ability to continue past the moment of its' creation, doomed to
die the instant it is born.
Both are necessary for a useful existence.
